The Importance of Milestones

Did you make a New Year’s resolution? It’s the beginning of the third full week in January and chances are you might have already given up your resolution. According to a study done at the University of Scranton, only 8% of people actually keep their resolution. The most common New Year’s resolutions are diet/exercise, reading more, learning something new, saving money, being a nicer person, getting a new job, giving more time and money to charity, drinking less, sleeping more, and making new friends.

Instead of making a New Year’s resolution, why not create milestones each week that will ultimately become your 2020 resolution? For example, a diet and exercise resolution can be modified as a milestone to have a healthy and active lifestyle in 2020. Start small! You could have a goal to work out 2 times a week. Then maybe after a month you could add in an extra day, keeping 2x a week as your minimum. As for diet, we can also start small by adding 2 glasses of water each day. Having milestones each week or month ensures that you stay on track to a healthy and active lifestyle.

Milestones are also integral to effective project management. Each milestone is checked off before the next begins, ensuring that we are staying on track and nothing is missed. Moving from milestone to milestone seems more manageable than thinking about the entirety of the project, and leads to higher productivity. Well-defined project milestones make it easier to communicate the progress with you, our client. Your project management “personality” dictates how often we send you updates. Some of our customers are hands-off during a project, while others like to know when each milestone is completed. If you choose to work with Pendant, we will ask for your preferred management style and adapt to what best suits you. We promise when your head hits the pillow at night, we won’t be on your list of things to worry about.
